Bike2Farm coming back to life

Hello Bike2Farmers,

As you may have noticed (or not) there has not been much activity

for Bike2Farm. Bike2Farm is happy to announce that we are a working

group again!!!! At this very moment trips are being planned for this

summer for all to join. Bike2Farm is looking for volunteers to help with the

regrowth of the project and would be happy to invite any one to join. If

interested please contact at (bike2farm@gmail.com).

What is Bike2Farm?

Bike to Farm is a group who organizes bike trips to organic farms but is not

limitted to such. The Concordia Food Coalition and “Allego” have sponsored us; they

support us with finances and bike tools, thus trip costs are very low.

As for who we are, we are a working group under Concordia Food

Coalition! Bike2Farms group shares similar interests: we typically love the

outdoors, we bike, appreciate organic food, and want to treat the greater

ecology well.On our Bike2Farm trips you will typically experience bike touring and

organice farming. It’s a lot of physical activity in 3 days, it’s important that

those who come understand the implications of such a trip.

Our mandate

• Learn about and practice organic farming

• Provide links to farms

• Inspire

Trip Number 8 – Registration now open!

From October 14th-16th, Bike2Farm will journey to the beautiful and peaceful Little Forrest Community to help out with their CSA farm. Little Forrest Community is in the Eastern Townships near Dunham, which is kindof sortof near Cowansville. (You may just want to check google maps if you’re still lost). As usual, we will be biking there on Friday, helping out on the farm on Saturday, and biking back to Montreal on Sunday. We will be riding on Route Verte bike paths for most of the way, including one that runs along the Chambly canal, and passes by two picturesque forts. Our rain date is the following weekend, October 21st-23rd.

This trip should be undertaken by experienced cyclists only. Little Forrest Community is 110 kilometres away. Although the way is relatively flat, not all the paths and roads are paved. Please do not register for this trip unless you have completed one bike ride of 80 km or more in the last month.

The October Trip – La Terre Bleue

Hello bik’n farmers!

The next Bike2Farm trip will be held from Friday, October 15th to Sunday, October 17th.

We are heading South West to La Terre Bleue. The route is about 95 km.

I imagine the route is going to be stunning! The trees are all changing as move deep into autumn.  The farms are still harvesting all kinds of fruits and veggies and this is a big organic farm, so that means there is lots to do!

This trip will have 2 departure dates.  Bettina Grassman will be guiding the majority of the group down on Friday morning.  Leaving 10ish and arriving in the late afternoon.  All who register are strongly encouraged to head down on Friday as this way they will have more time on the farm.  A second group guided by myself (Graham Bradley) will leave VERY early Saturday morning.  I have class Friday and am determined to head down and arrive in time to help out.  For those who wish to join me for a 6:30am start, be aware that this group will be maintaining an average speed of at least 20km/hr.  If you do not feel that you can maintain this speed, please make arrangements to head down on Friday.

The farmers will be supplying us with all the delicious organic veggies we can eat and other food.  As per usual, all meals will be vegetarian with a vegan option.  If you have other dietary needs please email bike2farm@gmail.com to inform us so that we can accommodated you as best we can; that said please bring what extra food you feel is necessary to meet your needs.

While everyone needs a sleeping bag (if you don’t have one we will find you one) we will not be camping.  There is enough space for the group to sleep indoors.

There is space for only 10 to 12 people, so please register asap!

If the weather turns really wet, we have arranged with the farmers (Nora Johnston & Jamie Quinn) for the trip to be postponed until the next weekend (October 22nd – 24th).

If you are interested in attending, please go to “Trip Listing and Registration” and click the link.

If you have anymore questions, email us.

I can’t wait!

Regards,

Graham Bradley
